Born of an idea around a kitchen table, in the heart of Mount Pleasant - The Whip Restaurant Gallery was formed, and evolved into what it is today through the suggestions and feedback from staff, patrons and the vision of the owners.

People are often curious about how they came up with their name. It makes for a good story and it is not S&M related. Their sign pre-dates The Beatles fame, and reliable sources describe the origins of the Whip sign as a place that mirrors the ambience and culture it dons today.

Their mission is to provide a memorable dining experience which offers affordable high quality food and beverages in a comfy casual atmosphere that appeals to the 7 day a week diner.

They strive to provide: snappy, friendly (sometimes sassy) service; support for local Microbreweries and Vineyards; a venue for local artists to display and sell their works.

The Whip has defined a new dining category in Vancouver, as 'Real' Casual Dining. They offer 3 menus to choose from in the historical setting of the stately brick building, called the 'Ashnola'. This name originates from the gold discovered in the Ashnola River at the turn of the last century.
